Base Load

A building’s base load is measured by the number of kWh used while the building is unoccupied. This may include safety lights, parking lights, water pumps, and anything else necessary to keep the building running when tenants are not around.

Why It Matters

One of the main values of real-time data is to watch and compare building base loads. High base loads are a great example of low-hanging fruit that can translate to savings with just a few operating changes. Base loads are also great to compare across buildings to see which buildings in your portfolio are most and least efficient.
