Economizer

Economizers are dampers that can be opened or closed, depending on how much outside air should be coming into the building.

Why It Matters

In order to adhere to air quality standards for commercial buildings, they must use economizers to control the amount of fresh air that comes into the buildings. During the shoulder months, when the temperature is between 55 and 65 degrees Fahrenheit, there is no need to heat or cool the building. Instead, the economizer can be kept open and the outside air will keep the building at a comfortable temperature.
