Power Meter

A power meter collects data about a building’s electricity consumption in kilowatts (kW). There is usually a main power meter that the utility company uses to generate the building’s monthly bills.

Why it Matters

Real-time data can be collected through a pulse output from a power meter. This is a very easy way to extract energy data from a building and send it to cloud-based energy management software. If you want to measure consumption from a source that does not already have a power meter, you can easily install a new wireless or web-enabled meter or submeter.
