Submetering is the process by which building managers install and maintain separate meters for each tenant space. This can be used for triple-net billing.
Why it Matters
Most buildings only have one meter per utility. With just one meter, it is hard to see where exactly the resources in your building are being consumed. With the advent of wireless and web-enabled metering technologies, submeters are inexpensive and easy to install. Submeters can also be used to implement triple-net leases for tenants.
