Submeter

A submeter is a device that can be connected to any source in a building so real-time data for a section of the property can be collected.  Submeters can break down consumption by space, equipment type, or source, and can be used to measure electricity, water, or gas consumption

Why it Matters

Most buildings only have one meter per utility. With just one meter, it is hard to see where exactly the resources in your building are being consumed. With the advent of wireless and web-enabled metering technologies, submeters are inexpensive and easy to install. Submeters can also be used to implement triple-net leases for tenants.
